party of the broken.

party of the broken.

A Poem by Margaret
"

You don't have to be unbroken to be happy.

"
y'all.
let's invite ourselves to an adventure.
in a party of the broken.
where we mix wine with betrayal and cheese with colors of pain.
we laugh over our tears,
overlook our fears.
saying a loud "cheers!"
to the hard, difficult years.
we don't mistake reluctance for cowardice,
nor do we think we need to be happy to rejoice.
sometimes all it takes is a pause,
a shut down.
to make the world realize how amazing it is,
to be emotionally wise.
we descend down the stairs of our memories,
every once in a while,
thoughts that make us shudder are all thrown down in a pile.
and in this everlasting party, we have someone who breaks down,
salty tears and heart-wrenching pains.
it's difficult, we admit.
but we admire,
and desire,
to be that person who stood strong even after everything.
we do not take up methods of how to cry and hold a grudge from each other,
we try and learn how to deal with our broken selves.
our souls bloom like new, fresh flowers arranged on the party table,
our faces glowing like the moon.
we drink and laugh and cry,
because we know the pause would be over soon.
the world will function again,
and the tides will try and rush up to the moon,
when we'd be thrown down into the spiral midway,
circling round and round and round,
till we stop.
stop back onto our real selves,
and give them a little smile,
a mock to the perpetrators that we survived,
an assurance to the moon that we reached back safely,
a promise to us to pause sometimes.
we don't have to be unbroken to be happy,
all we need are our soothing heartbeats,
our smiling faces and our shiny eyes,
as we wait for the next,
party of the broken.

In some ways it reads like a story, with some work done to be poetry... And, on that line of thought, you'd probably be better off writing a flash fiction piece or even a short story...

On the other hand, I'm a dud when it comes to 'creating' poetry, so anyone with enough confidence to share theirs is a good poet in my book.

Altogether, it was a good read!
Thank you for sharing.
