void

void

A Poem by Marcus Mckenzie

growing
the bleak space between stars
the universe is expanding
they say
the collapses and supernovas
all unglued and slowly moving

apart

maybe one day soon
in the sky

the moon will have hung a sign
or left a note
"gone for good, you're on your own"

and the tides will all commit suicide
and the oceans will be left flat

but, for now
gravity
still
 pulls

stop flapping your wings, you'll see

me

marooned

we can walk on mars

kick cold red rocks

drift

together

drift

apart

send an s.o.s.
from the dark side of nowhere

throw bottled messages
into the void

hope half-heartedly
that they will travel faster
than the universe is expanding
and reach a rescue party
that travels faster, too
