A Poem by Marcus Mckenzie

here among the zombie stars
generalisations seldom apply
the rules are tangential
and often indecipherable

here, silence alternates

oscillates

between
stillborn

and
loudlivid rage

here, trials take place;
conviction is certain

sentencing is withheld for effect

a jury of enemies is
content to offer mocking sips
of the finest hemlock wine
to be enjoyed by the light
of a moon made of decaying flesh

here, the sunrise sighs

its dim light provides
carrion scavengers with improved sight
even as it blinds potential victims

here, hope is the horizon
