Turn it off and listen.

Turn it off and listen.

This isn't really a story, but more of an essay type thing......

Turn it off and Listen
Yes, Music is quite amazing.
But have you ever just wanted to listen to silence,
Or the sounds of nature,
Or the city,
Or even just the sound of someone’s voice?

Television and computers.
Yeah, you can learn a lot from what you see and read on their screens…
But is it worth it?
Wouldn’t you much rather learn first hand?
Haven’t you ever wanted to go the places you see on those screens?

Cell phones.
Good for quick communication on the go…
And pretty much everything else now as well.
But only sending partial words in texts
And communicating with those who are miles and miles away
Instead of those who are right there close to you
Are dumbing us down and tearing society to shreds…

So instead
of tuning out the world with our insanely loud headphones,
Or filling our heads with the unnecessary knowledge of what goes on in the pop culture scene,
Or attaching ourselves to our bluetooths
And our text messages,
Learn from and listen to those around you……
You might just learn something.

Be it
Learning how many times your grandparents got into trouble when they were young,
Or listening to what a stranger might have to say.
There are plenty of things to do outside the world of electronics.
Go find some of them,
Do them,
And pass the message on….

Definitely a good message behind this poem. It's crazy how so many people simply cannot stand silence. I have a friend who has to fill any silent void with mind numbing babbling. I really like this.
