Lost Forevermore

Lost Forevermore

A Poem by Becky
"

Mermaids.

"

Silver swords of starlight streak

To moonlit waters slice and bend

Deadly calm of storm approaching

As ye near yer journey’s end

Lost forevermore.

Fair cold siren song echoes

From the forests of the deep

Eerie symphony of loneliness

Shall drag ye to yer sleep

Lonely angel once was yers

As are lovers intertwined

How now seek ye to defend

‘Gainst ghosts inside yer mind

Pure and happy matrimony

Is lost amidst the sweetness

Of siren song’s dark reprise

In the shadows of your weakness

Against the tide she pulls ye forth

And then lost forevermore

A touch from this seductress

Ye’ll never more to shore

And she the villainous villain

Vicious, foul, distasteful deeds?

Condemned by ye and bridal veil?

Look how her heart yet bleeds

For fortune’s foe ye thought she was

And fortune’s foe she yet will be

Women bad luck will bring aboard

So ye threw her to the seas

Lost forevermore.

A curse on ye, pathetic men

Woe on ye, despicable foes

In searching the heavens up above

Ye’ve forgot the hell below

Naught but a whisper now is left

Of the once-fair maiden’s cry

Vengeful merfolk at once return

Flee, ye devils, and fly

Now rising from the shadows

From the forests of the deep

A once-fair maiden’s desperate cry

The one ye sought to keep

Now rising from the shadows

From the ashes of the deep

A once-fair maiden’s keening cry

Shall carry ye to sleep

Lost forevermore.

Inspired by a now lost tumblr post suggesting mermaids were what remained of the women sailors threw overboard because they were "bad luck"
