Happy PlaceA Poem by BeckyThat's the first thing the psychologist asks- what's your happy place?“A happy place” they said Everyone must have their own world Proud castles, banners are unfurled To hide you from pain and from sin “A happy place” they said Show me where you go to hide From the bumps in the night From the beast deep inside Sunny skies can sparkle bright. “A happy place” I said I can draw you a drawing Trees grown thick with stars The winter snow thawing Fading away with the scars “A beautiful place” they said Can’t you tell me more? What do people eat there? Do you swim by the shore? Live on a wing or a prayer? “A beautiful place” I said No fear or nightmares or guilt No remorse or duty or tragedy What falls is always rebuilt So perfect it’s delicate agony “That’s wonderful” they said You’ll pull through just fine Hold on to the happy place To star trees and scent of pine That realm can be your brace "We don't want you" they said No money to be made off you. The doctor sent me back home I vanished without a trace Because in reality I lied There was no happy place © 2013 BeckyAuthor's Note
