I'm so sorry, baby,

that I wasn't there to hold you

when your day turned to night

I wasn't there to stroke your face

and lie and say it'd be okay.

Why didn't I lay and match my breathing

with yours until the last one shuddered from your mouth?

How could I leave you alone?

Why didn't I cry when your tears hit the floor?

I'm so sorry for not protecting you.

Why did you have to leave

without saying goodbye?

Why wasn't I there instead, to

wish you sweet dreams?

So I can whisper against your warmth

and sob how much I miss you.

With you gone, who will I admit to

about how much my heart throbs?

I can't seek your comfort with you gone so far away.
