Two Rivers of Blood

Two Rivers of Blood

A Poem by Amanda Naomi

Two rivers of blood

One to the east and one to west

Running to the east

Is a river of blood

Shed by the tears

Of mothers, sisters, daughters

Children dead

Bodies dead

Spirits dead.

Two rivers of blood

One to the east and one to the west

Running west

Is a river of blood

Shed by the sweat

Of fathers, brothers, sons

Men dead

Enemies dead

Spirits dead

One river of blood

Running to the east and running to the west

I like it, the imagery of two rivers with distinct differences shows one of the, apparent, differences between men and women. The use of enjambment to portray the flow of a river is a little cliché, but its done exceedingly well in this particular poem. Also, taking into account that 'blood' can be a metaphor for life and lives and suggesting that many people waste their lives is good, and something I particularly enjoyed about this poem.
Great read, I don't think anything needs adding to it though

aww the east and the west hold so much mystery, depth and iridescence, a color that much are blind too.
