Ode to a mouse

Ode to a mouse

A Poem by LPS

There was a day, an awful day. I killed a mouse you see.

To most many this would not be a travesty.

This poor little guy, who I later bequeath a name, had found his way to a trap.

Only He did not give his life to the bloodthirsty SNAP.

Just most of his nose, mouth and an eye.

Not half dead, too mangled to free.

Our hearts beat together it's weighing on me.

I have to set this little soul free.

I shutter inside, over come with dread.

All ready tortured so it has got to be quick.

I go for my shovel and then grab a sack.

Cover him, heart woebegone, I give my best whack.

It was then that I felt that I had learned something new.

The trap that did this was set by me.

This little life was cut short by me.

Life is not meant to be taken.

Not in such manner.

It is not my design and I am not the planner.

This day, this awful day, ruined by the demise of a mouse and his dismay

Have enlightened me to a different way

From when to the end

Never to take the life if I can

Animal insect or man.

Good bye to the mouse that showed me a way.

Taught me a lesson, so not to die in vain that awful day.
