Ezeriah Lane at 3:00 a.m. Across Mexico and the USAA Poem by Manuel A HurtadoA brief poem about a girl who struggles.Ezeriah Lane at 3:00 a.m. Across Mexico and the USA Ezeriah Lane killed a part of herself when She said she was going to kill herself. It popped up on the screen, Ezeriah Lane: "I have to............" And I said, "No, Ezeriah, you don't." And she said, "Yes, I do." And I waited, and I waited, And time fell like the clothes off a slow lovers' body. Guilt-- culpability-- strain-- regret-- Helplessness-- fear-- blame-- butterflies-- Concern-- sympathy-- relation-- cold-- Ezeriah-- Ezeriah-- Ezeriah-- Ezeriah. Ezeriah knew she wasn't going to do it when She realized a part of her left when she Resolved to do it and wrote, "What is this life thing anyway?" And I said, "I don't know." And she said, "Does anyone?" And I thought and I thought, And I said, "No, I don't think so." Ezeriah, I love you like one loves those who He needs to know exist. I love you like sad people love Sad people and lovers. I love you because you need love And I need to give it. I love you because I can't see your Face and I know who you are. I love you because you're beautiful And truly don't see it. I love you because you're a little Girl who just got her period Thirteen and molested by her father And bullied and neglected And sad and lonely and hidden Amongst the brush I love you because you deserve A stranger from a wrong email To love you And make you feel like It'll be alright. -Manuel A.
