Middle Ground

Middle Ground

A Poem by Just Manoosh

Written April 2004. Do not be scared to dream.

Middle Ground

You know where you’re going; you know where you’ve been,

But sat in middle ground, do you dare to dream.

Aiming high but still unsure what you can achieve,

Take the time to look inside and make yourself believe.

Hurt by love, life or fate the story is the same,

Frightened by our past we play the future game.

As a baby with no cares we take our brave first step,

Showing a great leap of faith from our first small breath.

As an adult our outer shell protects our inner child,

Only the very strong will let their hearts run wild.

Happy though you may be, scared is what you feel,

Worried that you will lose everything that’s real.

Why do we carry doubts, why can we not let go,

I wish I were that person who inner peace does glow.

Close to being so complete, having everything you chose,

Only means you’ll wake one day with a lot more things to lose.

Wow, there is so much truth, which lies within those words almost leaving me with a feeling of nakedness. It hits so close to home that it made me think once again.

As an adult our outer shell protects our inner child,
Only the very strong will let their hearts run wild.
Happy though you may be, scared is what you feel,
Worried that you will lose everything that's real.

Just loved this stanza.
Such a wonderful reminder that we are indeed all the same!

I love this. You described the evolution of self unbelievably well. It's just a reminder that inside, we are all the same. I'm so glad James sent this to me.

I really like this piece. Your diction and flow are effortless. So true, as an adult I really do think about the future and the consequences of my actions. Who will my decisions affect beside just myself? The better your life gets, the more afraid you are that you might lose it. This was an insightful and thought provoking poem.

Thanks for sharing.

Isn't that the barest truth. Its amazing to me.. how much fear you gain when you reach adult hood. I remember thinking when I was younger, that when I was a "grown up" I wouldn't fear anything. Now that I've made it here.. I know there are much more scarier things than a boogey man under the bed.
