The AM

The AM

The AM

A flutter of light breathes from the dawn,

I stretch, I peek, I groan, I yawn.

With sleep and her daughters sweeping my face,

I slide from my duvet with elephant grace.

Slip, slop, flip, flop, dragging my feet,

Fumbling and bumbling, where is my en suite?

Step into the shower; do as you’re told,

Oh s**t girl wake up the water is cold!

Writhing in pleasure my body arcs and tenses,

Heat gathers pace and wakens my senses.

With incredulous strength I move from within,

Stepping free from the shower with glistening skin.

A short walk to my wardrobes I look for my mask,

It’s way too early for this arduous task.

A mirror I seek but do not request,

I perch on my bed, my legs need a rest.

Armed with a comb, a clip and a band,

I grapple then bungle the task set at hand.

10 minutes later my hair still berserk,

I flop in my car and head off to work.

Oh my, how I can relate to this. I loved how when you went to your closet, you put on a mask, instead of clothes. It gave it a serious double meaning. There is great flow in this poem, it was easy, and light, and an excellent read. Thanks for sharing Manoosh!

This is an excellent read ;)

The rhythm and rhyme flow perfectly and the subject matter is something that we can all identify with, but can't all necessarily express as elequoently - top piece!

"Writhing in pleasure my body arcs and tenses,

Ah the noble shower - forget coffee, forget anything else - couldn't wake up with out it, for exactly the reasons you describe ;)
