A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAMEA Poem by Unjust MohanIt is a satire on 'politically correct' language.A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME
When a person is not ‘dead’ but ‘differently alive’ Being ‘homeless’ is merely being ‘residentially flexible’ When plans do not ‘boomerang’ only ‘come back home’ Ops! It’s not a ‘war’ but only an ‘armed intervention’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
When good old friend did not ‘lie’ merely ‘dis-informed’ And a Cheat is not ‘dishonest’ only ‘ethically disoriented’ The man in rags is not ‘poor’ only ‘financially inept’ She is not ‘obese’ at all, only has ‘ample proportions’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
The employee is not ‘sick’, only ‘indisposed’ Company has not ‘fired’ him he is only ‘laid off’ Fortunately he is not ‘unemployed’ but ‘between jobs’ He is not ‘starving’, only ‘not making the ends meet’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
Not a ‘suspect’ to Police, he is only a ‘person of interest’ In fact, not a ‘murderer’ he is only a ‘termination specialist’ The victim has not been ‘killed’ but only ‘neutralized’ Convict is not put in ‘jail’ only sent to ‘correctional facilities’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
He is not ‘dumb’ but ‘cerebrally challenged’ Not ‘lazy’ at all, only ‘motivationally dispossessed’ ‘Bald?’, not at all, just ‘a little thin on the top’ Not ‘drunk’ only a little ‘tired and emotional’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
When ‘Nothing’ is but ‘what is not’ It’s at a ‘different temperature’ but not ‘hot’ The person is not ‘ugly’ merely ‘under attractive’ Being ‘naked’ is only ‘wardrobe malfunctioning’ This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret.
Quote Shakespeare to justify, “What’s in a name, A Rose by any other name, would smell as sweet” I cannot say the crow is white, but must call a spade a spade Then why make fuss and bulk to the Thesaurus add This is the time when you are sounding politically correct Albeit the words convey nothing or may wrongly interpret. © 2014 Unjust Mohan |
