A State of Despair

A State of Despair

A Poem by Daniel Maguire
"

A somewhat pessimistic and cynical look at the present state of matters in the Republic Of Ireland

"
More water
less taxes
and while we're at it
grinding axes

Hows about those
f*****g fascists
who limit rights
and only argue semantics

An end to austerity
don't be absurd
that's the funniest joke
I've ever heard

The working class
the only victims in the crash
while all the suits
made a mad dash for cash

It's simply the new law
of diminishing returns
but some things don't diminish
like the peoples concerns

I truly love this poem, Daniel. While America is coming out of a slump, this sentiment has been very common here as well in recent years.

The frustration with political talking heads is not lost on me and I can relate to this anger this poem conveys.

I almost feel like this poem is either incomplete or requires a follow up poem. If incomplete, the reader is looking for a solution. Sadly, I'm not sure there is one, but it would be interesting to see what you think. A follow up poem might take a different line of thought, perhaps from the voice of the fascists attempting to explain themselves (a "Devil's Advocate" sort of poem).

Either way, I enjoyed this poem. Nice work.
