Playground Souls
We met like children on a honey summer’s day,
Strangers at first, then swiftly swept away.
Laughing and dancing, lost in play,
Dreams like sneaky kites tugging away.
From timid steps to leaps and bounds,
We flourished together on chalk-marked grounds.
On sun-warmed benches, stained with hours spilled,
Playing hearts like cards, all in, so thrilled.
A quip, a laugh, oh, that smirking face,
Then all at once, you became my place.
Together we wander, boundless, free,
Two playground souls, just you and me.
You’re the quiet creaking of gentle swings,
The peaceful joy that childhood brings.
The dew-soaked grass on our tangled feet
Where whispers scamper dark and sweet.
In games of life that come our way,
I’ll knock your door, always eager to play.
My first round pick, like the playground draft,
From pick-up games to the wins that last.
Like hide and seek my favorite game,
When I slip away, wrapped in blankets of shame.
You notice spots that no one can find,
Pull me from quicksand, my spiraling mind.
Through every turn, each twist and bend,
I’m found by you, my truest friend.
When the skies swell up, sponges heavy with doubt,
Together, we’ll always “fig it out.”
You’ll chant, “Babeej, everything is okay”
As you teach me to twirl in the raindrops’ ballet.
Barefoot, we'll splash in puddles all night,
While storm clouds argue, our spirits burn bright.
You’ll breathe with me swaying slow in the rain;
Who cares for storms? Let's play, anyway!
Together we’ll run, we’ll dream, we’ll plan,
Hand in hand, deciding we can.
Together we’ll seek adventures unknown,
With a love that’s grown, yet feels like home.
Hands entwined, we reach and climb,
Building a life, each leaf, each rhyme.
What sprouted in laughter, like wildflowers free,
Has deepened roots, like that old playground tree.
Four seasons in play, old and new,
The soul in me tags the soul in you.
A high-stakes game yet bright with cheer
“You're it” my love, a prize so dear.
So here’s to us, to storms and swings,
To a love that feels like childhood springs.
Two playground souls, bound endlessly.
Come, lovie, let’s play-just you and me.
