Alice and the Boy

Alice and the Boy

A Story by Alice Brown
"

The tragic yet absolutely pathetic love story of Alice and the boy.

"

well, Alice, she was never very close with her parents

her father abandoned her and her mother when she was 10

Alice and her mom moved, to a new country, and started a new life there

Alice was very shy, and also had an arrogant character, but she had two very close friends

she was very reluctant to leave them when her mother decided to move

but of course, she had no choice

barely a month after she left, there was an earthquake

one of her very best friends passed away

but Alice had just started school, and her mother found herself a job, so there was no way Alice could get any sort of close, not to even mention attend her friend's funeral

then Alice found out that her father, who had left them, is now happily married with another woman (an ugly s**t)

Alice was devastated

she was depressed, she was wondering why she was even alive

she went to her mother's drug cabinet, and wanted to overdose on Advil or something, anything, just to end the pain

but she decided against it

there was a boy at Alice’s new school

she thought he was dashingly handsome, but who was she to judge?

anyway, Alice thought she liked the boy

but she wasn't sure. there was no way. she had never had a crush on

anyone before.

she had made new friends, but Alice was still the "shy, quiet girl" no one really socialized with

so she talked to the few friends she had, and they encouraged her to befriend the handsome boy

Alice and the boy became friends

they were very close, in fact. they hung out on the weekends, they helped each other with homework

and it seemed as if Alice had forgotten about her feelings altogether

it seemed as if there were no feelings to forget about to begin with

she enjoyed the friendship very much, and would never have done anything to endanger it

she felt like Icarus, who was going to fly too close to the sun if she wasn't being careful

and she was careful alright

until a certain classmate of Alice’s asked the two of them, why are they not dating? they'd make a very cute couple

things got very awkward between Alice and the boy

they were still friends, but they tried no to be seen in public by others, to avoid being the centre of the conversations and the gossip

and Alice was beginning to sense a change in the boy's behaviour

she would find him holding doors for her, being happy to see her, the prolonged hugs

she thought he had liked her

she remembered the way she once felt about him

and then there was a school camping trip that both Alice and the boy went to

it was a snow camping trip, and a voluntary one, so there were only a dozen or so people present

after a very long day of digging snow caves in which they were going to sleep that night, everyone was very tired

somehow, Alice had no idea how, she and the boy were assigned to the same, small snow cave

after dinner, after lights out, when everything else was quiet, the boy suggested they play truth or dare

and so they did

the questions started out normally, favourite colour, things you hate about the biology teacher

but then they started talking about some real deep s**t

like what is your greatest fear? what are you afraid to lose?

and the boy said, you

the boy asked, truth or dare

Alice said, feeling the tension, the heat radiating from the boy's sleeping bag, quietly and carefully.. dare.

i dare you to kiss me, the boy said

and Alice, being the stupid little girl she is, kissed him

they barely got any sleep that night, between the passionate kisses and

the sweet words of stupid young love whispered in each other's ears

the next morning, Alice asked

was it all a dream?

the boy said, if it were, I’d have never wanted to wake up

Alice and the boy dated for the next three months

they were high on happiness

or at least Alice was

she finally felt like she belonged

after what had happened with her father, after how she parted with her best friend, she finally felt happy

but then, one night, when they were up late texting each other, alice asked, remember how i asked you if it were a dream?

and the boy said, yes.

and Alice said, I’m so glad it wasn't

and the boy said, that he isn't

he said, it was a nightmare

he said, all those i love you's, the kisses, the hugs, the passion, it was all a dream to him

and that he had woken up

and all the praises, and all the cute texts, all a lie, caused by his desire, pure, manly, ugly, biological desire

Alice had given everything to him

and he had used her

and Alice felt like everything came crashing down again

her friend's death

her father

her desire to end pain

and she felt as if she could never trust another human being as long as she lived

and so she said, why live?

and so she went to her mother, said that she had a stomach ache

a terrible one

got worried, took her to the hospital

and while everyone was rushing, getting test results, she overdosed on morphine

and was finally at peace.

the end.
