I FELL TOO DEEP

I FELL TOO DEEP

A Poem by Mandisa Thabethe
"

It's beautiful and expressive! It chapters the vulnerability and intensity of falling in love

"
I FELL TOO DEEP🍃

I fell too deep, fell and forgot myself.
Yes, I'm loved, but self-love is important, right?
I fell too deep and found a glimpse of my smile that was taken away.
Is this love? I fell in love with God's creation.
His smile is like the brightness of the full moon.
His eyes sparkle like the sea welcoming the morning sunrise.
I fell too deep and saw his love wiping away my past tears.
I fell too deep and saw nothing but him in my future plans.
God, I never planned all these feelings, but I trust them to you.
Honestly, after him, I know it won't be easy to find his replacement.
I'm keen to know his likes and dislikes, but I owe myself some love too.
Good relationships turning to disappointments.
I fell and lost myself in the process.
All I ever wanted was to feel loved.
If only he could feel the same.

A very powerful message about the nature of love. When I was a teenager my very first love broke my heart. Like most kids I never thought I would ever love again, nor did I want to. It was too painful to endure. My wise old grandmother gave me the most wise words about love that I still remember to this day. She said, "always remember that when you are in love you can only control the love you are willing to give and never the love the other person is willing to share. You can only hope it is equal to your own." It would take me years to understand that message. I believe had I learned to love myself better I would have understood that enlightened bit of wisdom much faster. Thank you for sharing your wonderfully illuminating wise poem with us.

Thank you so much for finding it illuminating. To be honest I wasn't too confident about publishing .. read more
