Kill the FearA Story by Mandi LuThe voices told him to kill the fear...Sitting in his bed, his body grown rigid with fright, Deth stared into the darkness of his room. His eyes were dilated, and he was clutching at his sheets. He could hear them whispering in his head. Voices, oh so many voices. They made Deth want to scream! Deth squeezed his eyes shut in a feverish attempt to chase them out, but instead they rushed foreword even stronger. Deth hard two verities of voices he heard. Those voices that threatened to come and take him away to their hell, and the voices that tried to spread their hell to others through him. Tonight they wanted him as their messenger. Deth looked around in fright as their hoarse whispers came again to his ears… “Kill…take…dominate…” He shook his head. He pulled his sheet over his head and body, and huddled there. But they didn’t leave. “Revenge…hurt those who have hurt you…” Deth shook his head again, and his sheet fell away. He pulled his knees up to his bare chest, the soft fabric of his black pants caressing him. “Get away,” he muttered, but they only came closer, louder. “Kill…kill…KILL!” Deth groaned and reached blindly towards his nightstand. Sitting on the nightstand were bottles of pills. In the dark Seth was unable to read their labels. As his trembling hand almost grasped a bottle, it tumbled over and spelt white pills all over the nightstand. Deth frantically grabbed four and pulled them to him. As his trembling hand popped the pills into his mouth and he swallowed, his clock struck 6 A.M. And as he began to fade away into a drugged state, he heard the voices last commands. “Kill…kill the fear!” When Deth woke up, his head had a gentle buzz running through it. He groaned and reached his hand up to touch his forehead. He noticed a tube running from his arm. “Look who woke up,” came a smooth voice from somewhere in the room. Deth blinked, and watched a slender shadow walk to his side. “Where am I?” “The hospital,” came the smooth sound. “You overdosed on your tranquilizers.” “Oh…” Phear sighed and sat down on the bed. “What were you thinking? You took four, you know you only need two!” “I…didn’t mean to take them…I wanted my other meds.” Phear blinked. “You had another attack?” Deth nodded. “How did I get here?” “Your parents found you on your floor at 6:30. They called an ambulance, and you’ve been out for fourteen hours.” Deth sighed and Phear took his hand, his long black hair falling around the two males, his light blue streak falling over one of his own eyes. “You had me worried,” Phear said. “I found out when I came home. I thought maybe you had just skipped school…but then I got a message from Timid saying he saw an ambulance this morning at your house.” Deth looked into Phear’s light eyes, and saw wet tears forming in the corners of his eyes. “It was horrible waiting in that damn waiting room, until your parents finally went home to get something. The little fuckers wouldn’t even let me in the room!” Deth sighed and Phear took a moment to get his raging emotions in check. He leaned down and hugged Deth, kissing his cheek lightly. Deth smiled. He enjoyed his quiet moments with Phear, when it was just the two of them. When he had his beauty all to himself, when he felt he wasn’t only second best. These rare moments made his attacks all worth it. “When can I leave?” Deth whispered. Phear let go of him and sat up. “I’m not sure. I’d imagine they’d want you to stay the night. Maybe you need stronger meds if you’re having attacks again.” Phear stood up and walked away from the bed, returning with a small black note pad. He opened it and wrote a note to himself on one of the pages. Deth smiled. He felt Phear took better care of him then his parents ever could, keeping track of every attack Deth had, even carrying his meds with him just in case of a sudden attack. If Deth’s parents ever found out they’d freak. They hated Phear. They couldn’t stand the idea that their only child, their son, was gay, dating a boy who looked and dressed like a girl, and that their son was slowly going insane. Phear closed the pad and leaned down, kissing Deth’s lips lightly. “Your parents will be in soon, I’d better leave.” He smiled. “Can you imagine if I killed them here? In a hospital? Why, the police would have me in jail quicker then that,” Phear said as he snapped his slender fingers together. Deth only nodded, and touched Phear’s hand. “I’ll see you soon,” Deth said, his black bangs covering the corners and tips of his eyes. “Of course, once we get you out of here.” With that Phear turned, and snuck out the door. Deth watched as the light from outside trickled away, and the room was black again. And he was alone. He wished Phear didn’t have to leave. Every time the boy walked away, he felt a tinge of regret for not keeping him, and the pain of fear. The fear that he wouldn’t walk back to Deth, but that he’d walk away to someone else. Phear was Deth’s greatest joy, and his
worst nightmare. He filled him with more pleasure then anything…but the fear
Deth always felt was more overwhelming then anything…and it made him wish he
could just…kill the fear… © 2010 Mandi LuAuthor's Note
