When Men Aren't Heroes

When Men Aren't Heroes

A Poem by Eli J Medina
"

Inspired by a friend of mine and a line by Neruda

"
I see your thin face and pallor
Raven hair that tangles my thoughts
As if your beauty was some sick power
That has men begging to be caught

Time to time I've seen them gather their courage
Coming up to you like their number was called
Spouted words they deemed were charming
Spouted lines you've already forgot

Yet what is there to do when you're spoon fed disillusion
Songs and literature teach us love and romance
But our insecurities teach us how to abuse them

When men aren't heroes or passionate princes
When women aren't damsels in need saving or a man's redeemer
When we swirl about each other
An amalgam of childhood hang ups
And primitive lust
Thrusting our genitals into one another
Until it starts feeling like love
