Iron in Our Nerve

Iron in Our Nerve

A Poem by Eli J Medina

Born empty handed
But not empty hearted
We will leave with all we came with assured
With more hope in our pocket
Then they could steal
More iron in our nerve
Than they could feel

They talked themselves up like Persian monarchs
Then crawled to the feet of their vices
And begged
But we will stay eternal in the sunlight
We will safe guard our hopes in the heavens

They may chase us with poisoned tipped arrows
Dissuade us with tongues of deceit
Try to barter for our souls
With chests of wealth
And succor sweet

But we will not repeat the mistakes of our fathers
We will learn the harsh lessons
We will stay eternal in the sunlight
We will safe guard our hopes in the heavens
