It'll Hurt Less

It'll Hurt Less

A Poem by Mamalou

I should be wise

but am full of lies.

Where did I go?

Locked inside,

Pushed down to hide,

Won’t get out that low.

But she screams

At me through dreams.

Please, let me go,

Up to the surface,

Where it will hurt less.

Too weak to hold on.

She’s no longer gone,

But breaking free

Of the prison inside.

Never again to hide.

I can finally be me.

I can’t stay so low.

Please, let me go

Up to the surface.

I promise it’ll hurt less.
