Distant Dis-Connection

Distant Dis-Connection

A Story by Iqmal
"

It's easy how we can connect with people from around the world, and so easily for us to also disconnect from each other.

"
We were two strangers. In distant lands.
Both seeking a connection of some sort.
It didn't matter what it was.

A shared love of games.
A favorite author whose books we would keep reading, again and again.
A past we were both ashamed to relive.
Or maybe, the fact that all we needed was just comfort.
An escape from our daily lives.

But we found that connection, albeit a tiny one.
And we built on it.
Finding out where each other's happiness lies.
Finding hope in that tiny strand that binds us together.
Finding ourselves in each other's lives.
And we thought it would be enough.

But reality sets in, as it always does.
And that hope we found, becomes a distant dream.
A dream where neither of us would be willing to act upon

And slowly, that dream starts to fade away.
With it, our sense of familiarity with each other.
And we, fade away with it.
And now. We are both two strangers again.
In distant lands.
