An Attempt To Breathe

An Attempt To Breathe

A Poem by Malen

I said it slower than intended.
Barely able to exhale.
Squeezed from form
It all out poured.

As if a muted warrior, I swung my might.
The world slowed, slower still.
Until the only echo was my shrill.
Mid air stay my hand, must I slay this man?

Unearthed from his recent rebirth
A kneeling man cries.
What is it about these ancient beliefs?
Always putting my soul at ease.
Until modern thought birthed worship.
All could sigh relief, in simple belief.

The stars above once guided all
Beneath we thought to command
Everything, except our fallen.
Yet, to their universe we always return
Seeking, searching, asking more.

In these moments between
I'm better to be writing, for
Speech destroys my passion.
Amplifying my dying scene.
As I wish only answers,
Commands echo even louder.

Finally a breath, my words fell out.
Spilling faster, speaking out.
Losing my intended thought.
Instead, I've left you to gawk.
As slowly I curl my hand
Touching the crusted land.
Hoping to be more than misery
In our spiritual star dust history.
