Memeingless

Memeingless

A Story by Guardian Of The Lost

The year is 2089. Memes have been outlawed. Some people were able to adapt to the harsh reality, but others were not so fortunate. Many went on with their daily lives as if nothing changed, but they were lying to themselves. Things had changed and it was dreadful. It was only a matter of time before riots broke out and total anarchy commenced. Kids refused to go to school searching endlessly online for whatever memes they could find. The police had to crack down and hard, so they developed a new squadron to tackle the delinquents; the AMTF, Anti-Meme Task Force. Anyone caught online scouring the interwebs for memes illegally would be traced and arrested. The sentence was 40 years licking envelopes 12 hours a day 6 days a week. Since the crime rate soared, the police department developed a need for more letters to be sent out for any infractions.

The AMTF had a mission to rid the world of memes as soon as possible or risk losing humanities’ sanity. People quickly grew mad with desire and couldn’t help themselves. Hysteria ensued and folks were frantic searching for any and all memes. People would foam at the mouth if they went too long without a meme and soon enough there were more meme-crazed civilians than members of the AMTF. The AMTF had their work cut out for them, but they were small in number compared to the public. As the need for memes rose, the population’s longing for their fix skyrocketed exponentially. Meme dealers emerged out of the sheer necessity, slinging memes in dark alleys and behind Taco Bells for 1,000 bucks a pop. It was simple supply and demand, and these brave dealers were putting their lives on the line. They knew the repercussions of their actions, but society had a hunger…a hunger for memes that needed to be satiated.

One by one the dealers were rising in the ranks of the criminal underworld and the AMTF would soon apprehend them. As more and more people abandoned their responsibilities less and less could afford memes. Folks became violent and used force to get a quick high; however, the dealers were prepared for such an outburst and were strapped with anti-aggression memes. These memes were specially designed to make the customer laugh uncontrollably to the point of passing out with a fixed smile on their face. This drew the attention of the AMTF and actually made it easier for them to detain the memesters. It wasn’t long after that the AMTF subdued and imprisoned a vast majority of the populace. This once beautiful, humorous world evolved into such a grim, cruel place full of pain and melancholy. What was once a planet rich in opportunity and hope descended into a realm of destitution and despair. Life had truly become memeingless.
