High School

High School

A Poem by Maia Guerrero

They say that High School is the best four years of our lives.
They say that we'll miss High School.
But High School is the most confusing four years of our lives.
As senior year draws closer and I'm drowning in test and homework assignments,
I realize that I'm still trying to figure out who the hell I am because you can't learn that from a math equation.
I am the fish that Albert Einstein talks about,
Teachers not believing in me due to my test scores.
People judging me for that one thing I thought was cool.
Being judged by the way you look causing not loving yourself isn't enough.
Being judged for what you want to do or who you might want to be.
Being judged for not knowing your own sexuality.
Being judged for knowing your sexuality.
Being judge for who you have sex with.
High school is the some of the most difficult years of your life.
Once senior year hits, it will all be over and you might end up alone.
So make the best out of those four years,
Discover who you are
Discover who you want to be.
Don't be scared to ask that one "out of my league" girl.
Don't be scared to take those risk.
High School will be some of the best years of your life because it is when you start your own individual life.
Its the four years that you make best friends and lose best friends,
Learn what love can be and learn how love can hurt.
It's the best, worse, and all together most confusing four years of your life.
