Me and I

Me and I

A Poem by Mohammed Mansoor Al-Raisi

Empty thoughts run through my head,
They're keeping here in this cold bed.
Every night dreaming of waking up a new,
Instead I wake up next to you.
Cold to the touch, eyes more blank than the day before,
Knock me down so I cant get up and walk out the door.
Weight of a boulder pushes me down,
You wear the remnants of my hopes and dreams like a crown.
They go with the flow or they swim against it, I can't even stay afloat,
You drag me down, a burden I wear as a coat.
I can't go on without you, I am weak for you but you couldn't care less,
No, to you I'm nothing but a pawn in your maniacal game of chess.
I try to lead you to the right and away from the wrong,
But you were arrogant, you just stood there tall and strong.
Someday ill be able to lift you off my chest and push you aside,
I will take on the demons you send, eventually you'll have nowhere to hide.
I will face you head on and look you in the eyes,
No more games, your time is up, say your goodbyes.
I will defeat you.
I can defeat you.
I think I can defeat you.
Blah! All this uncertainty hurts my head,
I think i'll just go back to bed.
