I Used to Believe

I Used to Believe

A Poem by Magnolia Liberato

I used to believe in the world,
But now evanescent felicity
Is revealed as a mere copy of reality.
Gilded curtains flutter in the spaces of my mind,
But as I reach out to stroke their lilting wings,
They part to reveal the horrors behind.
I have no belief
With which to center myself;
Knuckles have long since gone pale
Trying to hold onto the cliff of insanity.

I used to believe in love,
But that too was whisked away in the night.
Surreptitious dalliances have left me unsated,
Because the face of my other self
Sees the way I know true happiness.
Faces blend into one another,
So I can no longer discern between my best friend
And hated enemy.

I used to believe.

But now I am nothing.

I'm guessing it was a cold, black night when these words came upon you. I really like your writing, it's like peering into your mind. In an artistic way, not a creepy way :)
