Chapter 4: Harmony-fighting and True FormsA Chapter by VineySome advantages of being a hybrid are revealed. Just wait for later in the story, you'll discover how the medicine really does work.I woke up in my dorm with a bone-jarring headache. Everything was fuzzy at first, but slowly, ever so slowly, things began to come into focus. I saw Magma standing by my bed with a girl that looked about my age. I was surprised he hadn't pushed me off the bed this time. When they saw that I was awake, Magma started talking. “Silver this is Lark. Her partner, Blaze, and you are going to be training together today.” “I thought a lark was a kind of bird.” Lark spoke up. “I'm called that because when I first became a hybrid, somehow I ended in the bird's area. Not sure how that happened, but it was the most fun I've ever had in my life! Did you know they let wild birds in there? It was like and All-You-Can-Eat buffet in the Main Room!” Her eyes sparkled at the memory. “Wait, I know you!” I said, feeling hope growing inside me. “You're my best friend! The one that led us on the escape attempt!” her eyes widened as she recognized me and a big grin spread across her face. “I thought we would never see each other again!” she yelled with excitement. “Yes,yes, happy reunion. Now lets go.” said Magma irritably. “Remora and Blaze are probably waiting in there already.” I was confused again. “I thought a Remora was a fish.” I said. “Yeah, she got her name the same way I did, except she ended up in the aquatic hybrids area. Fresh seafood!” laughed Lark. “I can see why you two are Linked!” I said with a chuckle. Magma groaned. “Ugh. Come on, we don't have all day!” “Yeah, yeah don't get your tail in a twist!” I snapped. Headaches made me a little cranky. He took us to Training Room #74. Blaze and a girl that must have been Remora were already there waiting for us. Remora was short with very dark brown hair and brown eyes that were trusting and joyful. I knew her. She was the catcher on my softball team, and a phenomenal one at that! “K-746, rain forest hologram.” Magma commanded. Leafy trees, dense undergrowth, and unusual jungle sounds filled the room. “Today we'll be learning about harmony-fighting and true forms. Let's start with trues forms. A true form is when you fully become the animal inside of you. Most of us call it kahl. I think it means something in another language. Concentrate hard on the creature you are, and you'll fully turn into it. I'll demonstrate.” Magma finished his speech by turning into a jaguar! We all gasped in surprise. He turned back to normal and said, “Now you try it. It's not very hard.” He was right! Before long, Blaze, Lark, Remora, and me were jaguars, chasing each other through the forest, climbing, leaping, and ambushing each other. “Alright you four, come back here!” Yelled Magma through the branches. When we reached him he told us to turn back to normal and started talking about harmony-fighting. “harmony-fighting can only be done if you have a Link. It's when your minds temporarily connect completely. It may sound cool, but it's only good for fighting a group of enemies.” he went into more detail and showed us some moves that worked really well with it and had us try. When we were finished, I asked him, “Why are we being trained to fight?” He answered me quickly. “You aren't being sent to colonize a planet, you're World Government's soldiers. Everyone with a high position in government is a little bit hybrid, even though you usually can't tell.” “Why? Why are they hybrids?” “So they will be ready.” “For what?” “For when we go to war.” © 2013 VineyAuthor's Note
