I stand at the edge of sanityA Poem by MagdelenaInside the mind lays many things. Reality or not, it's what we ourselves hear.I stand at the edge of sanity My mind no longer mine Thoughts of danger always lurking Is within me all the time. In front of me I see shadows Behind me they cast their form Aside me they move so quickly Darting it seems without warn. 'Sssssh' I whisper softly, in a shaky little voice 'They will hear you, your thoughts, ring out' Eyes darting to and fro rapidly Then movement to my left, I give a shout. 'Oh sweet Jesus' I pray eyes shut tight Over and over, in my mind Yet horror still surrounds me. For peace I shall never find. Only the damp eroded forest Tress as old as time itself Fog with shadows moving For I am the next victim on the shelf. Of darkness and evil within The book of the Spirits that roam Whimpering in the cold night air I just pray, eyes closed. 'Oh lord I just want to go home!' 'I know they are here' My thoughts speak inside my brain I feel them moving all around Then I giggle. Sounds strange. 'Oh Lord am I going insane?' Then laughter comes forth, Loud and clear Piercing as any shrill sound Then I realize the worst of my fear. For they now know I am around.. In darkness they see me In the fog they have eyes Staring all around me Just waiting for my demise. 'Oh you little Devils!' I giggle behind my hand Soft as a breeze I send it forth The rest of my sanity thrown upon the sand. For behind me I hear them slowly moving The sound of leaves crackling beneath their feet I stand against the tree, eyes closed And knowingly wait for my defeat. Yes... ~~~~ I stand at the edge of sanity My mind no longer mine Thoughts of danger always lurking Is within me all the time. © 2022 MagdelenaReviews
