The child within.... (Revised)A Poem by MagdelenaSometimes there's a child in all of us just trying to get in.. THE CHILD WITHIN….
Through
smokey clouds of vapor, I lay silent,
my sighs singing softly
with the flapping of wings
from birds flying gently
above, their sounds distant;
far away across the
ocean.
Wondrous joys once held,
pass slowly by
through memories I hold
dear.
Cherished moments, dreams of yesteryear
pass by.
I sigh... Oh sweet joy! I look
toward the darkened sky;
my eyes taking in all
its glory.
The vastness of what was shall never be again. Time, like an
hour-glass, slowly moves on.
Drifting by, as all things do; life once known, disappearing from view. Dreams, I surrendered,
my heart sent forth
engulfing all before me, grasping at tiny pebbles on the shore. Stones large and gray,
weather-beaten from angry waves,
ocean dark blue,
violently crashing words,
but nothing comes forth,
no sound or meaning,
just pounding waves, and cries from birds. Yet
listen...
Eyes closed, I hear the
distant call;
A mere whimper at first, tiny, bare... Is it? I smile. Yes, sweetest joy for
which I have searched.
This child, hidden for
so long,
now rises from the
shadows,
reaching toward me, her
hand gentle, kind.
The one I had been searching out, I finally found. Hand held out, I slowly surrender; fingertips barley touching 'til finally, I become
the child within.
