Life In the Hearts of Many

Life In the Hearts of Many

A Poem by Roe

Who are we to to define emotion?
Define love.
Define sadness.

A lover's touch might not be so sweet.
So soft and inviting.
Love may be dark and cold.
Instead of light and warmth.

In the eyes of a person.
Sadness may bring happiness.
Instead of pain and suffering.

Who are we to define people?
Define perfection.
Define worthlessness.

In the eyes of the world.
A woman's perfection can not be flawed.
A man's perfection can not be weak.

In the eyes of the world.
Worthlessness is a person who is not superior.
Who is damaged.
Who will not conform.

Who are we to define what is the norm?
Define ordinary.
Define insanity.

Ordinary may be insanity.
Insanity may be ordinary.

In the hearts of so many...
Who are we to define anything?

Great thought. This is indeed an interesting question ! I guess we're no one. We can at best aim at giving our own personal interpretations of such things and therefore the knowledge deriving from our judgments remain strictly subjective :)

I had this conversation with someone recently about who defines what is and what is not offensive for another person? I don't know about you, but I get irritated when someone comes to my defense if that person deems what someone else said offensive to me when I myself did not. I can handle myself. It's different but similar at the same time with this. Who defines what these things are? It always seems to change, so why should we listen to what the mass opinion is, or a vocal minority that might be just as wrong. Shouldn't we just... decide for ourselves? Life is not in the hearts of the many, and is not defined by the many, it's defined by an individual. What it means to them, is what it means to them. We should stop spending so much time trying to label and fit things into a box we can understand and just... live.

"Ordinary may be insanity.
Insanity may be ordinary. "
The twisted movement of life. What is insanity? What is ordinary? Thank you Roe for sharing the excellent poetry.
