A Trick of the EyesA Poem by M.A.I am a villain with a soul. A compassionate monster. Though, with each passing sneer, They faded…
I protected you with my atrocities, Slander from our father’s lip falls solely on me. If I stopped he’d turn to you. Your light, so easily snuffed out.
So therefore, I welcomed such hatred. No I revel in it. But there was a cost. I played my part too well.
My soul grew cold. Compassion became absent. I didn’t even realize it. I should have.
Rage was all I understood. Hell, I was -no am defined by it! Passion turned aggression.
Happiness bared no fruit. Love was a mere folly for fools. Just a trick of the eye.
I denied them for so long. Their meaning became lost. But I knew how to play their parts.
A smile here, A carefully placed sentence there, But it was the eyes that solidified them. Over time… The persona became personality.
But it was worth it brother. Because you shine, While I elapse into darkness.
