Wealth,Untold

Wealth,Untold

A Poem by Madhusudha
"

On friendship and dedicated to all my close friends who are the only wealth a girl could want...

"

Once, at a neighbour's kitty party,

I met a friendly well-dressed lady.

Introduced herself, to me.

Then, “Who are you?” come tell me.

“Where do you come from?” do say

And what do you do; day to day.

I come from a small town

The name literally unknown

A beautiful place, wonderful folk

Full of simple and honest talk.

I just do what I do

I am as ordinary as anyone you knew

Are you healthy and wealthy?

Of riches, what have you?

I thought for a minute, or two,

Said I, well thought over words, few

Healthy, I am, fortunately so,

And wealthy beyond any, you know.

Oh, that’s so wonderful!

Come, tell me how bountiful?

Neither land nor home I own

Neither gold nor silken gown.

Why then, you are so poor!

Pity on you, poor dear.

“No”, I replied, I possess

The most in this world, I confess.

True friends, caring, sincere

The greatest wealth, far or near

Each priceless, surpassing wealth untold

Beyond any silver or gold.

Through good and bad times, they stand

Ready, anytime, to lend a helping hand

Truly in this, my dear naive woman

Blessed, fortunate Indeed I am, by heaven!

No wealth in the world could become

Or come close to their warm welcome.

“See you then”, and the lady went

As she walked away, her head bent

Wondering wistfully, how would it be?

To be wealthy, as wealthy as me.

For neither a friend was she

Nor a friend had she.

Written on 24th Christmas eve  midnight, dedicated to my dear friends

"Money Can't buy You Love", well it can, but that's not love. In the end, after our life flame is burned down to near nothing, what we were or had means nothing without friends to share whatever you had or not. A simple life with friends, love and laughter is all you need.

Well done.

With no permission of yours...I claim my share of the dedication, as one of your many friends.
Beautiful and quite intriguing...not forgetting it is pleasant to a fault.
"As she walked away, her head bent
Wondering wistfully, how would it be?
To be wealthy, as wealthy as me.
For neither a friend was she
Nor a friend had she."
Loved those lines...friends like you keep alive the spirit of friendship.

With an engaging style, you've skillfully expressed an eternal truth. No price can there be put upon a true friend, for they are precious beyond gold. Fortunately, I still have two of them from my youth.
