Admissions Essay

This came to me as I was looking for info on college admissions for my son. I feel sorry for these kids who have to cater to the system n do all this to get into a college of their choice.

She sighs, 

Another long read;

Monotonous and long drawn

Written and rewritten

Edited  and Polished

Many hands

Many times, to be,

Finally signed off by one.

This one here

And yet another 

So eerily identical 

Mundanely same

Written to wheedle, cajole

Impress and proclaim!

To the pitifully hapless reader;

The worthiness of the writer,

To be admitted into 

This Exalted Hall of Learning

The awards earned, accounted for;

The volunteer hours numbered

'Showing' future hope and promise

to serve the underdogs of the World.

The papers speak at length

Of various accomplishments;

Contrived and strained,

To reveal 'the brilliant mind'

lurking behind  the lines,

Of the much mulled over lines

Sorry,My friend,

When you do walk in

Finally, Irrevocably,

Triumphant and Oh so full of pride

At having done it!

You will find for yourself,

These halls have been furnished

By many such as you

Who came before.

Diversity, there certainly is

In color,shape and size,

For the rest,

We are truly  identical

In mind but clones

cut from the same cloth

Driven by ambition and ego

To Be interred here 

Whatever it takes.

The system once begun

To bring together the brightest 

The best of society

To work towards

The progress of man

Has fatigued the reader 

The writer and those that come between

Welcome,my brother

To this Chimeral paradise

Do take your place

And Rest thee,among Equals.

Having got the pleasure of the experience, I am in total sync with this piece. Hours after hours of application...I almost drowned in exceptional frustration. But I would suggest more punctuations...it will help with better reading.

thanks for your review. I will work on those.Isn't it interesting how every new thing that comes up there are people hacking and trying to work the system.. as with the new SATs.. pity the college aspirant
