The waiting

The waiting

A Story by Madhusudha
"

My first attempt at writing, came to me as I was driving home after dropping my kid at school.

"
Soon, It would be soon.  She had waited many long years for this moment. Her impatience showed as she fidgeted and looked towards the door eagerly. He should be here any moment. Would he feel the same as she felt, already?

Would he know her? Would he recognize her voice? Would he feel the ancient and timeless bond she already felt with him?  Oh, she dearly wished he would. She wished with all her heart he would know she was his, and his only!

What a truly lifelong beautiful relationship this was going to be, the unconditional love, the kind of love only two such people could share. How would he seem to her? How would she, to him?

She eagerly waited for the moment she would set eyes on him, finally after an intolerably long wait. She felt as if they had known each other forever.

She was sure he would be as perfect as he was, in her hearts's image. They had hardly met in a haze a few minuscule moments, before they were cruelly parted again.

It was still worth it, all the pain she had endured to be with him. She was willing to go through all that, over and over again, just so she could have him by her side.

Then, as she mused, he entered.

She rose and with open loving arms tenderly hugged him to her . The sweet smell of his freshly washed hair, the softness of his cheeks against hers was hers forever and ever... She would never forget this special moment of their meeting.

I love you, my darling, she whispered. His sleep drenched eyes dreamily opened and closed again. She  hugged him to herself and took him into her heart, once again.

He looked up as if into her love filled eyes... the woman who had given life to him.. yes, indeed it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship, that would endure for a whole lifetime.

The smiling creature who had encouraged her through the whole time said, "He's all yours, my dear!".

She looked down at him, wrapped up like the glorious, most precious gift that any woman in the world could wish for....

This makes most first write-ups look ordinary. Great...and honestly, I clearly didn't decipher the "He" was the new born child until the very end...nice work.
I'm not a mother. But knowing the love I've got for mine...I think my mind will smoke at the magnitude of my realisation, for her requited love.
You wrote beauty....

What a first attempt--wow! Believe me, this is very good and strong writing. The tension and interest builds, gripping the reader till the end. I was thinking, "She's meeting a long ago love--the one she should've married, perhaps." (I can relate to such musing) And then... and then, something perhaps even more special happens. Alright, you need to write more of these!

I like the way the essence is conveyed without excess.

I need help understanding who 'The smiling creature' is.

A gift of a story - unwrapped at the end to reveal a very special love.

Ah! I thought as much but was thrown by the word as it conjured up a different image.
