Four legged teacher

Four legged teacher

A Poem by Madhur Khanna
"

This poem is tribute to my best friend who happened to befriend me in the form of my pet dog Minty.

"

Four legged teacher

Being unconditionally happy,

Always the one to patch up after a fight

Licking, barking and hugging tight.

And answering to the knock,

Even in the middle of the night.

Hearing me without glaring,

Followed by hours and hours of staring.

The innocence in your smile,

Honesty you taught

Camouflaging with the floor,

Adaptability you taught

A language beyond words, you taught

Encouraged me to be responsive,

Even with people who behave passive.

Forgiveness, you taught.

To eat together, you taught

To play together, you taught

To express, you taught.

Climbing the golden staircase,

The white fur lost in clouds

I stare at you,

And you don’t look back,

To move on, you taught.

So sorry your dog died. What a wonderful relationship you had with him. You and he improved each other's lives. What more could you ask of a best friend? Beautiful sentiment in this one. Lydi*
