Just One

Just One

A Poem by LynntheLyrical

It was never just one.
She could never give her heart to just one person-
That would be selfish.
She gave her heart to many,
Piece by piece.
Slowly, she began to give out pieces, each smaller than the one before
For she realized her error in giving so much away.
Then there was one more.
She thought that if she gave more to just one,
He would give back all she lost.
She was wrong.
He took all she gave,
And she was left an empty shell.
Then came the whispers.
"He left her an empty shell"
They whispered at her back.
She wanted to scream
How it was they who had emptied her
And he who had made her see it.
She gave her all to everyone
Friends, family, strangers,
But who gave back the pieces they took?
There was never even one.
