Better Off Dead

Better Off Dead

A Poem by Madeline Dawn Parker

"I don't want to live in fear"

Stated a girl a bit over 14 years

She looked at her old picture over stinging tears;

She then looks in the mirror, and told herself loud and clear:

"I am not the girl I knew,

I'm lost with nothing left to lose.

I've lost everyone I've meant anything to,

There's nothing left to look forward to."

She began to wipe her eyes,

But could not stop her sorrowful cries.

She's never been able to say, "That's mine."

All she could ever say is, "Why?"

She had never had a friend,

Not after all the thing that'd been said.

After all of these hurtful thoughts filled her head,

She stands looking in the mirror yelling, "I'm better off dead!"
