The Old Dresser

The Old Dresser

A Poem by Madeline Shay

The Old Dresser

The book, the empty piggy bank, a heart carved out of stone,

Knick-knacks, an innocent slingshot, a crumpled $5 bill,

A crystal trinket with a lion encased inside, a slide whistle,

An ancient art project that broke, a ceramic castle of a faraway place,

A deck of playing cards, a long used concert ticket, a toy helicopter,

And a camera

Lay on the aged wood of the dresser,

Undisturbed relics

 of today, yesterday and tomorrow.
