Happiness and Death

Happiness and Death

A Poem by Madeleine Rose

Sometimes I wish I could be with them
Away from the sadness
The meanness
The rudeness

Away from the death
The anger
The fighting
And The despair

Away with my family
Away with the ones who love
The ones who understand
The ones who care

But they are here too
The volumes less
But the love is more
But the devil is here too

Where is the love
The joy?
The promised kindness
No it's not here

A single shot away
So close
So excruciatingly close
But Still out of my reach

No they won't win
No no no I won't let them
Ill stay when they dare me to go
I'll be here a while more

Maybe I'm stronger than this?
Maybe they are below me?
Maybe I can change what they've done?
Maybe I can undo the world and make it shiny and new?

There has to be some happiness left
So close
So excruciatingly close
But still out of my reach

Maybe tomorrow will be a better day
Full of everything I need
Full of love
Full of happiness

Maybe I can reach out to someone
Maybe I can help the shattered remains of this world
Maybe I can love thy neighbor
Maybe it's all I live for
