The Empty ChairA Poem by Maddi
In classroom 2B,
There sits an empty chair. It's at the back of the classroom, hidden In plain sight, behind nooks and crannies. The children in the class ignore the empty chair, Get on with their trigonometry worksheets, but Not hurriedly. Math is the perfect time for idle chit-chat. The teacher saunters around the room, Squeezes past the empty chair, not tucking it in. The teacher bends down to help a student Who is stuck. She ignores the empty chair. But the chair is not empty. It's like a pane of one way glass separates Him. From us. There is the same number of students as chairs... Yet nobody sees him there. They just ignore the empty chair. The bell rings, And the chair is tucked in; Neatly unlike the others. But nobody sees him leave, They don't even know he's there.
