EvolutionA Poem by MaddiFrom the sky a single drop, Makes it from the unknown. Splashes into a puddle. That becomes a trickle, That becomes a stream, That joins a tributary in confidence, At a confluence. They intertwine, Mingle their own stories Together. The stream becomes a river. That meanders through the country side, Like a ribbon, Of mirrors. That river widens, mouth opening. She tumbles over rocky crags Iridescent bridal veils She continues to widen. A trail of gorges, Left as scars Of her journey. Finally, she is so wide. Her journey is ending. She can feel his tide. Breaking in gentle waves, Across her salt-less surface. They can build dams, They can build dykes. But water's love Is stronger than rock and steel. For the loves the sea. And even when seas boil And rivers evaporate away. Their love will remain through night and day. © 2016 Maddi |
