Melodic Echo

Melodic Echo

A Poem by Maddi
"

A poem about how music is hypnotic.

"

White and black,

Opposites attract.

Melodic dissonance,

Oxymoron.

Cold tiles tell a story,

Falling under a spell of

Passion

Lust

Romantic dissonance calls.

Sweet tunes,

Honey and sugar-

Drip from the keyboard.

Splatters the ground.

Black and white tiles.

Repeating,

Polyphonic spinning.

Slowly pressed down,

Fingers splayed, praying in harmony.

Icy strings vibrate

And resonate.

Wooden frame bearing the heat in the icy room.

Her music is sustained,

Dying away like a breath in winter.

Echoes off the chandelier and

Echoes round the room and

Echoes round the room

  Echoes round and

 Echoes

Melodic Echo.

thank you to Gaia Octavia who gave me useful advice, I agree that the ending wasn't the best but hopefully it is better.

I really like the imagery in this. Especially when it comes to the instruments like "Icy strings vibrate" and "Wooden frame bearing the heat in the icy room." I know a lot of people feel music very strongly. Personally, it's a very rare experience for me to connect intensely with music, but when it does happen it is hypnotic. My only critique would be to look at the line "Melodic echoes round and" to see if it is necessary. If you feel that it is, than it absolutely is. It was the only line that kind of threw me off there right at the end. Just a thought. Great job! ☺

The imagery is really effective in this. I love how you mixed musical and literary terms to show the connection between the two - for me there is a definite link anyway. The one word lines are also very effective, as it creates a break in the poem and provides somewhere to really think. I really like the ending as well, the indentation and repetition work really well and create a poignant ending. I can really feel the emotion you experience when music plays. Well done!
