What am I, really?

What am I, really?

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

I am more than the outer appearance you can see-
the smile, the eyes, and the figure
you pass on the sidewalk everyday

I am the thoughts running through my mind
and the values I hold deep within my heart

My body is merely a shelter to
protect the spirit that thrives within it.

i am not an item to be observed and rated

I am here to challenge you, make you think,
give you perspective

I am here for deep conversation and debate and heart-to-hearts

The body gets me where I need to be,
but my soul is what gives me the ability to live.
