Forever a Pattern of Men Leaving

Forever a Pattern of Men Leaving

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

I've never brought myself to write about you

I've never felt as though I had the strength

I've written about men boys before..
the ones who came into my life
loved me
then left without warning
Those men boys were easy to write about

You..
You were different
I loved you more
Needed you more than any of them
You loved me more than they could have

But you still left
when I wished on every star that
you'd be here forever

Unfortunately, cancer doesn't care for my wishes
And she sure as hell didn't care about yours

Seven years was not enough for me.
And thirty-five was not nearly enough for you.

I miss you-
the only man who will ever love me
how I deserve to be loved
