Where's the Irony?

Where's the Irony?

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

We talked about my poems and the tragedies they hold
You joked that perhaps I should write about you next

I laughed with you, to lighten the mood,
But to me you were never a tragedy

You were beautiful
You gave me something I never knew I needed, but I craved it

Perhaps the real tragedy here
is what could have been with us,
but never will be.
