What it Wants

What it Wants

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

They say the heart wants what it can't have..
Perhaps that is why my heart longs for you far longer than my mind has
Its ironic how I've talked myself into letting go,
with my mind fully on board,
Yet here we are on the same page we began-
The page where my heart reminds me of the ocean in your eyes
and the sun in your smile
It tugs at me and romanticizes the idea of an us.
I want more than anything to ask you to be mine,
But maybe instead I should ask you how you've trained
your heart to listen to our mind
For I know we'll never be together
Because you are what my heart wants most
