We Killed The Bus Driver

We Killed The Bus Driver

A Story by Jess Darnell
"

Three girl, think it's going to be a normal bus ride, but it turns out to be the bus rid they'll never forget.

"
They thought it would be a normal, rainy afternoon. Little did they
know that it would be a bus ride they'll never forget.
Mareen pulled into the bus drive way for the middle and high school.
Students just got out of school on the high school side. Kids got on
the bus. Then May Hendersen and Tori Jensen walked on the bus. Tori
never liked May, she actually hated her. At the last minute, Julia
Thompson ran the bus. Her bag was opened, over her shoulder, sweatshirt
balanced on her head, and an instrument in each hand.
"Good afternoon, Julia. Where is Roney?" asked Mareen.
"I don't know, think she's beating up Brendan, he was a big jerk to me
today," Julia answered. She sat in the seat behind Tori. It was a long
day for Julia. She closed her eyes to take a nap.
"Want to have some of my cotton candy perfume?" May asked Tori.
"Yes," Tori replied. May spayed Tori with a little of her perfume. The
smell cotton candy filled the bus. It was a sweet smell, a little too
sweet.
"Uh, is that perfume?" Julia asked, May and Tori nodded her head.
"Mareen is allergic to it, not just hairspray, the spraying things!"
"I didn't know, why did you tell me?" Tori freaked out. The bus
swerved, the girls looked up to see the bus driver dead. Everyone
started to freak now. They are going to jail, Tori thought. Julia ran
up to the front, took the wheel.
"Tori, May, call 911, I'm going to find us a place for us to stop.
Someone else call the school, we need help!" Julia commanded. They did
just that. Tori took out her phone.
The phone rang once before a ladie with a high pitch voice. "Hello
there, what is your emergency?" the ladie asked. Tori rolled her eyes
at the ladie's voice.
"It's a long story, but my bus driver is dead, we believe. Well, she
had an allergic to perfume, I didn't know and my friend sprayed some on
me. The bus driver collapsed, my other friend is driving, someone else
is calling the school. We are on Route 562, by somewhere, I don't know,
please come, we need help, please come." Tori broke down, tears went
down her cheeks.
In the back round, the only boy on the bus, he's a year older than
Tori and Julia, he called the school. "Excuse me, Ms. Holten,it's James
Rooger, we are having an emergency. Our bus driver, Mareen, well she
had an allergic to something, I don't know why, I had my music in.
Right now, we think she's dead, a freshman is driving the bus, and
another freshman called 911. Come now, we are on--" he paused for a
second to catch his breath, also to find out where they were. He heard
Tori say "Route 562." "--Route 562, I think we just passed a private
land, I don't know, but come," James said scared like everyone else.
Julia found a nice spot by a farm. The pigs were oinking. In early
spring, even with rain, the farmer loved to cut his grass. I miss this
place, thought Julia. As a young girl, she would go to the farm every
day, but now in high school, she has time.
"Jules, earth to Jules, you okay," Tori asked waving her hand in her
face. Julia snapped out of her day dream. She slapped Tori across the
arm on accident. "Oww Jules, you still got the strength," Tori laughed.
Julia snickered, she hated the nickname Jules, it sounds to, full of
herself. They made a list together of who was on the bus. Tori, Jensen
Julia Thompson, May Hendersen, James Rooger,Maddie Decker, and Olivia
Smith. Tori wrote. Everyone was jelly of her beautiful hand writing,
even Julia. Olivia and Maddie were neighbors almost, only two houses
apart, they were in sixth grade, with May. James was tenth grader
that's neighbor's with Tori. And May, well, her family was living with
Julia's family for a short while. Tori wrote down all the information,
for the police to know, when they came.
The started to set, it was getting cold, the rain was pouring. "Want
me to drive you all home, I can walk after that," Julia suggested.
Everyone nodded their heads. Julia turned the key when they heard the
syrange of a police car. Paramedics came straight into the bus. Taking
the bus driver and the hungry, freezing students.
The board of education surrounded the kids. Asking so many questions
for them to answer. "Shut up if you want to know what happened!" Julia
screamed. The scene got very quiet. Tori, May, and Julia watch them
pull their favorite bus driver away. A tear went down each girl's face.
"Well, I had some perfume. I wanted to share it with Tori, so I killed
the bus driver," May explained.
"No, you and me did, because, then, well I didn't know she was
allergic, and May forgot, so she sprayed me. I liked the smell and I
thought May and I were finally getting along," Tori tells.
"I said,'Uh, is that perfume?' they nodded their heads. 'Mareen is
allergic to it, not just hairspray, the spraying things!' I explained
to them. Tori went on saying, 'I didn't know," and all on that. The bus
swerved, we got scared, I took wheel, James and Tori called you and
911. We're scare, hungry, and cold, I don't agree with them them
killing the bus driver, I say we killed the bus driver," Julia
explained without pausing.
"Please, don't take us to prison, we didn't mean to kill the bus
driver," the girls begged, all scared that they fell to their knees.
The adults roared with laughter. "You-you thought you killed Mareen?"
one of the doctors asked. The girls nodded, with tears gushing out of
their eyes. "No, no. She's alright, she'll be back tomorrow, and you
all aren't going to jail, even one of you drove without a licence. We
are going to take you home. You need to go to the office tomorrow for
now therapy," he explained, still chuckling over what the girls said.
The students headed off for home. The amazing event still molded into
their minds. A different worker took each kid to their house, except
for May and Julia, who live together. They tried to forget about their
bus driver's almost death. They knew that their dreams will be filled
with what happened, each one a little different.
The next day after school, the three girls walked to the bus together.
Talking about the therapy they were forced to go to. It wasn't as bad
as they thought it would be. They did get out of first period, science
for Tori, chorus for Julia, and English for May. The nightmares for
them were the worst of it. No one could sleep that night.
They approached the bus, all shaking. The doors opened, in was a man
that looked like he was in his early twenties. "Uh, where is Mareen,
she's suppost to be back today, everyone said so," May asked scared.
"Sorry sweety, she died around noon today. Her throat closed up from
an allergic reaction. I think a little late, but it's okay, I'm your
new bus driver, Dave. Don't worry about Mareen, she's in a better
place," the guy said.
"What!" the girls screamed. They killed the bus driver. Their lives
will never be the same again. "We killed the bus driver!" they
exclaimed. Tears fell down their cheeks. They got on the bus, all
depressed. That rainy, spring afternoon will never be just a normal
rainy day. They will remember its as the day call "We Killed The Bus
Driver."
