I AM NOT A CATERPILLAR

I AM NOT A CATERPILLAR

A Poem by MadalaJose
"

Memoirs of a Butterfly

"

I was flying like all days

Perhaps I was a little careless

Showing off my new wings

To caterpillars, these me-wannabes.

Then…

I run into a whirlwind

Nose-dived into a messy marsh

Got maggots all over my wings

Got my wings glued to the mud

I was stuck...

They started laughing at me

Pointing there mandibles at me

Mocking my efforts to fly again.

All I know is

I am not a caterpillar,

I am butterfly that fell in the mud

Warming up for my next flying lesson.

Nicely done Madala. We all have to learn to fly on our own, and sometimes we will make mistakes. It won't stop us from flying again though.

Hi,
I really like the first 2 stanzas. I love the fall from pride that is so human, but here depicted in a butterfly. I felt that this butterfly had a lot of strength because at the end he is self assured that he will get back up. But I wasn't totally convinced.. like was he just back in pride or had he learned his lesson that pride can get him into trouble? Does that make sense? I wasn't sure I believed the assuredness in the butterfly.
I really love the poem! Thanks!

I like this one man! Don't know if I get it entirely, but it sort of speaks about picking oneself up after a fall peharps...in any case I enjoyed reading it

Thank you Kunda for the review
I Adore this poem, to me It's like a metaphor. Even when you are so optimistic and high in life things can happen and suddenly you are down in the ground. But we get up, we fly again, and we write poems like this! Great Job!
