Zomba Mountain

Zomba Mountain

A Poem by MadalaJose
"

Zomba mountain is one of the biggest mountains in Malawi. It is it used to be a very beautiful mountain. Its beauty is heavily marred now by people who cut down the trees on the mountain.

"
She stands, petrified by the cold
Her hair crowned grey by the mist.
She stands lonely in mid-air,
Forsaken and forgotten.

On my feet I stand at her feet
Treading the footpath of memory
Replaying the scenes of her lost glory.
She was once capped
In sacred smoke of burnt sacrifices,
Now she’s greyed by mist.
She was once clad in a thicket of wild-ness
Now she is dressed in deforestation,
Clad in frustration.

The gods have bid farewell,
Our forefathers have left,
And they have left chaos.
